Verizon iPhone Sales

Feb 10, 2011 11:42 AM EDT

The Verizon iPhone hasn't been the smashing hit that AT&T saw. However, Verizon is making its mark.

Early news reports suggest:

  • VZW sold out their stock in 13 hours to existing VZW customers
  • Estimates range from 250,000 to 1,000,000 units sold
  • 2.5 million AT&T customers are expected to defect

Brilliant moves by AT&T to Defend the Exodus

  • Early upgrades in advance of the VZW launch
  • Renewed contract incentives
  • Pricing to be similar to VZW

Brilliant moves by VZW to Attract Subs

  • Offers unlimited data plan for limited time
  • Touts perceived status of advanced network

AT&T won't fail immediately because of the VZW deal, but they must remain very creative in their marketing messages and incentives to maintain their following. They have recently been branded as "the worst network in America" by consumer reports. No matter how good your marketing is, that can't be good for business!
